Prachanda Returns to Party Work
Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, the chairman of the CPN (Maoist Centre) and a former Prime Minister, has returned to his regular party duties. This follows a period of heightened security due to recent political events.
Background of the Security Concern
The need for increased security arose after a protest organized by the Gen-Z group on the 23rd of Bhadau turned violent. During these protests in Kathmandu's New Baneshwar and Itahari of Sunsari, police action resulted in the deaths of nineteen people. The following day, on the 24th of Bhadau, Prachanda had scheduled a meeting of opposition parties at Singha Durbar. As the protests grew more intense, the Nepal Army rescued him from the area and provided him with security for his safety.
Return to Regular Duties
According to a senior leader within the Maoist Centre, Prachanda has now returned to his party work starting Monday as the situation has begun to normalize. He is preparing to inspect the party's central office in Paris Danda, which was damaged by protesters. Furthermore, he is planning to call a meeting of party officials in the coming days to review the latest political situation.
