Bagmati Congress Parliamentary Party Meeting Begins, No-Confidence Motion Read Out

Hetauda – The Bagmati Province Congress Parliamentary Party meeting has begun to discuss the no-confidence motion filed against its leader and Chief Minister Bahadur Singh Lama. The meeting, attended by central representative Rajan KC, started with the reading of an official letter from the party’s central leadership regarding the appointment of the observer.

No-Confidence Motion Presented

Following the introductory proceedings, the no-confidence motion against Chief Minister Lama was formally read out in the meeting. The motion, signed by 21 out of 37 Congress lawmakers, accuses Lama of poor governance, weak budget implementation, and ineffective disaster response after last year’s floods.

Next Steps: Debate and Voting

After the motion was presented, discussions began between supporters and opponents of the motion. If no consensus is reached, the parliamentary party will proceed with a formal vote to decide Lama’s fate. A majority of 19 votes is required to pass the motion, which would then trigger the election of a new parliamentary leader, likely Indra Bahadur Baniya, the Congress Bagmati Province President.

Political Crisis Deepens

The crisis stems from a power-sharing agreement where Lama was supposed to hand over leadership to Baniya after 10 months. However, Lama’s refusal to step down has led to mass resignations of ministers and a growing rebellion within the party.

The final decision is expected soon, with the meeting set to conclude today. If the motion passes, Bagmati will see a new Chief Minister, marking a significant shift in provincial politics.

Note: The meeting’s outcome will determine whether Lama retains power or Baniya takes over the
