Three houses burgled in Rautahat via tunnel; cash, gold, silver stolen

Rautahat. An unknown group tunneled into three houses in Motipur Tole, Fatuwa Bijaypur Municipality-6, in the western part of Rautahat on Wednesday night, stealing cash and gold-silver jewelry, police said. The thieves entered the houses of Ramprasad Yadav, Tejanarayan Yadav, and Gajendra Sahani one by one by digging tunnels while the family members were in deep sleep in the middle of the night. According to the victim families, the thieves opened the lock of the trunk in Ramprasad Yadav's house and stole cash of 2 lakh 80 thousand rupees and gold mangalsutra and hanumani worth approximately 2 lakh 40 thousand rupees. Similarly, it is reported that three silver bangles for children worth about 20 thousand rupees were stolen from Tejanarayan Yadav's house after opening the lock of the box inside the house. It is reported that the thieves entered Gajendra Sahani's house as well, but no items were stolen, locals said. A team from the Area Police Office, Bijaypur, reached the scene after receiving information about the incident. Ward Chairman of Fatuwa Bijaypur-6, Ram Ekwal Yadav, said that since the locks of the trunk and the box were found to be easily opened, it is estimated that the thieves might have used duplicate keys. 'There are no signs of the locks being broken. They could be professional thieves and seem to have used duplicate keys,' said Ward Chairman Yadav. Police said that further investigation into the incident is underway.
