Government Unveils New Tourism Policy to Establish Nepal as Unique Destination

Aim to Boost Tourism Development and Promotion

The government has introduced a new tourism policy to enhance the overall growth and promotion of Nepal’s tourism sector. Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Minister Badri Prasad Pandey unveiled the policy during an event organized by the ministry on Monday.

Focus on Making Nepal a Distinctive Tourist Hub

Minister Pandey emphasized that the policy will play a crucial role in positioning Nepal as a unique tourism destination, blending cultural and natural attractions to create a distinct identity in the international market. He assured that the policy will address existing challenges and incorporate necessary updates during implementation.

Strategic Planning and Coordination

The minister highlighted ongoing efforts to develop action plans and strategies for effective policy execution. A coordination council has been formed to strengthen federalism, with three meetings already held in different regions. Additionally, plans are underway to introduce direct flights from Bhairahawa Airport to Buddhist-majority countries, responding to high demand.

Legal Challenges and Institutional Reforms

Pandey acknowledged that merging institutions under the ministry has created some legal complications in drafting new regulations. However, he assured that specialized laws for each body are being actively worked on.

The new policy aims to revitalize Nepal’s tourism sector, ensuring sustainable growth while preserving its cultural and natural heritage.
