NEA Clarifies Power Disruptions in Chitwan: Technical Issue, Not Load Shedding
Kathmandu, [Date] – The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has confirmed that recent power outages in parts of Chitwan’s Chanauta distribution area were caused by technical faults, dismissing social media rumors of a return to load shedding.
Cause of Power Disruptions
The NEA identified the issue as an overloaded 33 kV transmission line connecting the Chanauta 33/11 kV (Bhaseni) substation to New Bharatpur. The problem worsened due to increased irrigation demand during an unexpected dry spell, putting additional strain on the power infrastructure.
Temporary Outage Schedule
To resolve the issue, the NEA implemented a brief power disruption schedule for transformer replacement and load balancing. However, misleading reports on social media falsely labeled this as a "load shedding schedule," which the NEA strongly denied.
Load Shedding is History
The authority reaffirmed that Nepal has eliminated scheduled power cuts and urged the public not to believe false claims. "Load shedding is a thing of the past. The current issue is purely technical," the NEA stated.
Permanent Solution Underway
A new 33 kV line from the Bhaseni 132 kV substation is in its final construction phase. Once operational, it will permanently resolve power supply challenges in the region.
Power Restoration Timeline
The NEA assured that teams are working round-the-clock to restore normal supply within 2-3 days. Consumers were advised to disregard rumors and follow official NEA updates for accurate information.
"We regret any confusion caused by misleading reports and assure the public that Nepal’s power supply remains stable beyond this temporary technical issue."
