"Cooling Period Must Be Implemented": Congress Spokesperson Mahat

Kathmandu,— Nepali Congress spokesperson Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat has emphasized the mandatory implementation of the "cooling period" provision, stating, "This is not a negotiable matter. Attempts to remove it are efforts to impose monopoly in constitutional processes."

His remarks came during an event organized on BP Koirala Memorial Day, where he strongly opposed the amendment proposal submitted by CPN-UML in the National Assembly to remove the cooling period.

Key Points:

  • "The coalition government must adopt balanced policies," Mahat stressed, calling unilateral decisions on sensitive issues like the Land Bill unacceptable.

  • Concern over social truth: "Falsehoods are being propagated as truths," he expressed concern over the rising trend of misinformation in society.

Political Context:

  • CPN-UML has demanded the removal of the cooling period, which the Congress has labeled as anti-constitutional.

  • Mahat's argument: "This period is essential for the integrity of parliamentary processes."
