Major Infrastructure Projects Completed

The Ministry of Water Supply has claimed significant achievements during Minister Pradeep Yadav's first year in office. A total of 86 drinking water projects have been completed and brought into operation, including the Urlabari Mega Joint Investment Project and Belbari Drinking Water Project. The Melamchi Water Supply Project has successfully diverted water from the Ribarma River to Kathmandu Valley, ensuring year-round supply.

Financial and Construction Milestones

The ministry reported:

  • Secured funding commitments worth 12 billion rupees for FY 2081/82

  • Achieved 86% capital expenditure on water and sewerage projects

  • Initiated procurement processes for 5 packages of Melamchi water expansion beyond Ring Road

  • Advanced construction of modern water treatment plants with 25.5 million liter capacity in Sundarijal

  • Completed water storage tanks (6 million liters in Kirtipur and 8 million liters in Mahankalchaur)

Policy Reforms and Institutional Development

Notable policy achievements include:

  • Establishment of 15 permanent offices for previously temporary projects

  • Implementation of Drinking Water and Sanitation Regulations, 2081

  • Reduction of public participation fee from 30% to 15%

  • Approval of Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene Plan Formulation Procedure, 2081

  • Updated Joint Investment Project Implementation Guidelines, 2081

Immediate Crisis Response

To address acute water shortages:

  • Constructed over 250 deep boring systems in water-scarce areas

  • Additional boring works currently underway

  • Mandated chlorination units for all water purification systems nationwide

Minister Yadav emphasized these accomplishments have laid foundation for sustainable water management while addressing immediate needs across Nepal.
