Kathmandu – In a significant development for Nepali cricket, WorldLink Communications Limited, Nepal's premier internet service provider, has entered into a title sponsorship agreement with Kathmandu Gurkhas Cricket Team for the upcoming second season of the Nepal Premier League (NPL). The partnership was officially sealed through a signing ceremony held on Monday between WorldLink's Executive Director Manoj Kumar Agrawal and Kathmandu Gurkhas' Managing Director Anubhav Sirohiya.
Strengthening Cricket's Commercial Ecosystem
Speaking at the event, Mr. Agrawal emphasized cricket's growing prominence: "Cricket has emerged as Nepal's most beloved sport, captivating audiences across all age groups. While WorldLink has consistently supported grassroots cricket, this collaboration with Kathmandu Gurkhas marks our strategic expansion into professional league cricket." He further highlighted that private sector partnerships with tournaments like NPL would serve as a catalyst for long-term sporting development.
Gurkhas Aim for Competitive Edge
Mr. Sirohiya reflected on the franchise's ambitions: "The involvement of prestigious brands like WorldLink is pivotal to any league's success. Having them onboard elevates our team's stature, and together, we've set ambitious targets for NPL Season 2." The franchise has already appointed former Nepal national team head coach Monty Desai as their head coach and retained star players including Karan KC (marquee player), Bhim Sharki, Shahab Alam, Rashid Khan, Dipesh Kandel, and Pratik Shrestha.
