Photo Feature: World Cup winner Buffon arrives in Nepal

Kathmandu, March 2 — Italian football legend and World Cup-winning goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon arrived in Nepal on Sunday.

Buffon is in the country as a guest for the third edition of the KP Oli Cup Football Tournament, organized by the National Youth Federation of Nepal.

The KP Oli Cup, which kicked off last Sunday, will culminate in its final match on Falgun 19 (March 3, 2025) at the Dasarath Stadium in Tripureshwar, Kathmandu.

Buffon’s visit marks a prestigious moment for Nepali football fans, as the former Italian goalkeeper, widely regarded as one of the best in the world, takes part in the event as a special guest.

Buffon is best known for playing a crucial role in Italy’s victory in the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

In the final match, Italy triumphed over France in a dramatic penalty shootout, winning 5-3.

This victory marked Italy's fourth World Cup title.

Buffon’s remarkable career continued to shine as he helped Italy achieve numerous other successes, and he became a global football icon.

Over his illustrious career, Buffon played for some of the world’s top clubs, including Parma, Juventus, and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

He also holds the record for the most international matches played by an Italian goalkeeper.

Buffon has captained the Italian national team, cementing his status as one of football’s all-time greats.
