6.1 ML earthquake jolts Sindhupalchowk, surrounding districts

Kathmandu, February 28 — An earthquake of local magnitude 6.1 occurred with its epicenter at Bhairabkunda in Sindhupalchowk district this morning, the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center confirmed.
The Center stated that the earthquake happened at 2:51 am with its shock felt in Kathmandu and surrounding districts.
The earthquake was realized in the districts of eastern and southern part of Nepal too.
The District Administration Office of Sindhupalchok has announced that the process of collecting earthquake damage details is ongoing.
According to the information received so far, after the earthquake tremor, a prisoner in Sindhupalchok Jail was injured while attempting to flee in panic.
According to Assistant Chief District Officer Ganesh Nepali, the prisoner is being treated.
Additionally, the building of the Area Police Office in Godari has been damaged. However, the police personnel stationed there are reported to be safe.
A dry landslide occurred in Dugunagadhi, located in the Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-3, but no human casualties have been reported, Nepali mentioned.
A rescue team of security personnel has been deployed to the field as needed, focusing on post-disaster relief.
Aftershock tremors are still continuing, and as of now, 23 aftershocks have been recorded.
