Prachanda pledges to raise southern Nepal's issues as national concerns

Sunsari, February 27 — The Chairman of the CPN (Maoist Center), Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', stated that the party's "Terai Madhes Awakening Campaign" would establish the problems of the people living in the southern region of the country as a national issue.

While addressing a welcome and meeting program held in Barju, Sunsari, as part of the "Postal Highway-focused Tarai Madhes Awakening Campaign," Prachanda said that the state has been discriminating against the citizens living in the southern region for years, and this campaign has been initiated to raise the flag of struggle against this discrimination.

He mentioned that as one moves further south, the discrimination and lack of resources increase. He expressed his belief that the campaign would be fruitful for drawing the state's attention toward the development of physical infrastructure, initiating efforts to improve the work the party can do, and raising awareness for human development.

Prachanda also clarified that while the party’s sacrifices for the oppressed class have resulted in the acquisition of many rights, the implementation of those rights has been slow. He explained that the government, under his party’s leadership, had faced obstacles in carrying out work on behalf of the people, and the government was even replaced.

He added that the current government is serving corrupt, middlemen, and brokers and has done nothing for the people, prompting them to move forward with the campaign to make the people aware of this situation.

Prachanda, while recalling his efforts in the past to ensure the supply of chemical fertilizers when he led the government, mentioned that problems have started to resurface. He also discussed his efforts in pushing the School Education Bill through Parliament, emphasizing the need to pass it and focus fully on educational reforms.

During the program, established agricultural entrepreneur of Sunsari, Radhakrishna Rai, joined the Maoist Centre. The campaign team spent the whole day in Sunsari.

The activities for the day included visits to Barju Lake, discussions with sugarcane farmers, meetings with the Muslim community, rallies in Gadhi and Jalpur, and interactions with the public in Koshi, Bhokraha, and Madhuban, according to the Maoist Center Sunsari.
