Ruling parties decide to move ordinance forward in Parliament

Kathmandu, February 15 — The ruling coalition parties have decided to move forward with the ordinances in Parliament.

The decision was made during a meeting of the ruling parties held at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar on Saturday.

The meeting resolved to hold discussions with all parties and present the ordinance for consideration in Parliament.

Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak told the press that after discussions with all parties in the Federal Parliament, the ordinance will be presented for decision in the National Assembly meeting on February 18.

He claimed that they would have the majority votes needed to pass the ordinance.

Lekhak also mentioned that he had phone conversations with Upendra Yadav, Chairman of the JSP-Nepal, and Rajkishor Yadav, the party’s Vice Chair, who had agreed to support the ordinance. 

He further stated that any dissatisfaction regarding the land-related ordinance and other ordinances would be addressed through replacement bills.

He also noted that Congress and UML would create a task force and work in phases on constitutional amendments.

The meeting was attended by Prime Minister and UML Chairman KP Oli, Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, other leaders from UML and Congress, Janata Samajwadi Party Chairman Ashok Kumar Rai, Loktantrik Samajwadi Party Chair Mahantha Thakur, Nagarik Unmukti Party Chair Ranjita Shrestha, and Janamat Party Vice Chair Abdul Khan, among others.
