Prachanda confident JSP Nepal will block ordinances in National Assembly

Kathmandu, February 10 — Former Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' stated that if the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal, led by Upendra Yadav, remains firm in its stance, the ordinance introduced by the government will not be passed in the National Assembly.

Speaking with the media in Janakpur on Monday, he expressed confidence that JSP Nepal would maintain its position.

"The situation in the country is becoming difficult. Ordinances have been presented in the parliament, but the situation is stagnant. The government brought the ordinance with bad intentions when it called the parliament. Both in terms of reaction and substance, its objective appears to be wrong," he said.

"On matters related to procedure, they (referring to JSP Nepal leaders) have remained firm. As long as they maintain their position, it seems to me that they will not give up the issue just for the government. Of course, a decision still needs to be made. Maybe they even called a central committee meeting. If they don’t give up their stance, the ordinance will not pass in the National Assembly," he added.

The KP Oli-led coalition government, which has a two-thirds majority in the House of Representatives, is in a minority in the National Assembly.

Unless the three members of JSP Nepal in the National Assembly support it, the ordinance cannot be passed.
