Opposition to raise issues of livelihood in Parliament
Kathmandu, January 30 — The opposition parties in Parliament have decided to reject the ordinance brought by the government. Additionally, they plan to raise strong voices in the upcoming session of Parliament on issues like national sovereignty, livelihood, and controlling inflation.
A meeting of the opposition parties held at the Maoist parliamentary office in Singhadurbar on Thursday morning made this decision, as informed by the chief whip of the Maoist Center, Hitaraj Pandey.
Pandey mentioned, "We have decided that the opposition must unite to raise issues where people's concerns are involved, such as national sovereignty, livelihoods, and the government's negligence in controlling rising inflation."
The meeting also discussed the ordinance brought by the government.
Pandey said, "The way the ordinance was brought was inappropriate. The government could have brought it in October or December, but it was done alongside Parliament."
Although the government claims that the ordinance was introduced to provide quicker services to the people, the opposition has rejected this argument.
"It does not speed things up; it actually delays them. The Economic Procedure and Fiscal Responsibility Bill was already in the parliamentary committee, and it would have progressed faster there," Pandey said. "Everyone understands that the government's intentions are wrong."
He further stated that they would discuss the content of the ordinance after a substitute bill arrives, and rejected the government's actions of misleading the public.
The winter session of Parliament will begin on Friday.
