Government hikes public transport fares

Kathmandu, January 6 — The government has increased the fare rates for public transportation.

The Department of Transport Management has announced a fare hike of up to 3 percent for passenger and cargo vehicles starting from Monday.

Passenger vehicle fares have been increased by 3.30 percent.

Additionally, cargo vehicles operating on mountain routes will see a 0.81 percent increase, while those on the Terai routes will experience a 0.05 percent fare hike.

This decision is expected to impact the fare structure for both passenger and cargo transportation, raising transportation costs.

The government’s move is anticipated to provide some relief to public transport service providers.
