Kathmandu, December 19 — With the operation of the Kurtha–Janakpur–Jaynagar railway, both the residents of Janakpur and those living in the Nepal-India border areas are benefiting greatly.

The Department of Railways purchased a train from India's state-owned company, Konkan Railway Corporation, in 2019 for NPR 846.5 million.

The train consists of five carriages, with a capacity to carry between 1,200 to 1,300 passengers at once.

The Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU) trains, numbered DPC 1901 and DPC 1902, can run on both diesel and electricity.

Each train is powered by 1,600 horsepower engines, offering efficient and sustainable transport for passengers.
