Supreme Court directs NRNA Secretariat to facilitate Unity Convention
Kathmandu, December 13 — The Supreme Court has issued a letter to the Secretariat of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) in Baluwatar, instructing them not to hinder the process of organizing the Unity General Convention.
The Supreme Court's directive comes as part of its ruling on the case, where it has ordered the NRNA to hold the Unity General Convention under the leadership of former chairman Shesh Ghale within six months.
The Supreme Court's implementation directive was sent to the NRNA Secretariat on November 12, following the Supreme Court's order on April 3, which instructed the NRNA to organize the unity convention within six months.
The letter was received by Anil Dhungana, an employee of the NRNA Secretariat, on Friday.
According to the letter, the NRNA Secretariat had been instructed to provide written information within seven days about the reasons for closing the office during the meeting of the high-level committee on November 19. The Court emphasized that there should be no obstruction to necessary actions required for the event.
The letter specifically mentioned the need for cooperation in implementing the Supreme Court's order issued on April 3 which instructed the NRNA to organize the Unity General Convention, including the election process, within six months.
The directive also requested the NRNA Secretariat to explain why the office was closed during the meeting of the high-level committee, which took place without the Secretariat's cooperation.
The high-level committee, led by Shesh Ghale, met in Nepal House Restaurant in Baluwatar instead of the Secretariat after the office was closed. This committee decided to organize the Unity General Convention within six months and set a roadmap for the event, including the creation of a working committee (TOR) and the establishment of a Secretariat.
Additionally, the committee decided to send a letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Law to facilitate the convention.
According to Binod Kunwar, a member of the committee, a meeting will be held at the NRNA Secretariat on Monday, and further decisions regarding the Unity General Convention will be made. The high-level committee is now preparing to move forward with the necessary steps to ensure the General Convention is held.
The Supreme Court had previously ruled in favor of uniting the three factions of NRNA on April 3. However, the Badri KC group, which has been operating independently from the NRNA Secretariat, has been uncooperative with the high-level committee.
KC's group claims legitimacy based on another ruling by the Supreme Court in July, which they argue supports their position against Ghale's leadership. Despite this, the directive from the Supreme Court mandates the organization of the Unity General Convention within the specified timeline.
Badri KC, who was a member of the high-level committee, did not attend the meeting held on November 19.
