PM Oli expresses desire to implement BRI Framework during his tenure
Kathmandu, December 11 — Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli expressed his desire to implement the recently signed Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) framework agreement during his tenure.
The government has publicly released the full text of the BRI framework agreement on Tuesday, dispelling doubts and concerns over whether the agreement would be a grant or a loan. This came after some leaders from the ruling party, Nepali Congress, expressed fears that BRI could become a debt trap.
Prime Minister Oli stated that the agreement should be implemented through necessary groundwork by both Nepal and China. He emphasized that the government would expedite the processes required for the implementation of the agreement.
During a party secretariat meeting on Tuesday, Oli briefed his colleagues about the BRI agreement and its potential benefits for Nepal. He clarified that the release of the framework has removed all doubts and uncertainties surrounding it, adding that the BRI is a significant achievement for Nepal's long-term development, which now needs to be prioritized for implementation.
Prime Minister Oli also mentioned that he would strive to implement the projects included in the BRI framework during his tenure, working in collaboration with the coalition partners to ensure the swift execution of these projects.
Projects under the BRI Framework include the Tokha-Chhahare Tunnel, Hilsa-Simikot Road Project, Kimathangka-Khandabari Road and Bridge, China-Nepal cross-border railway, Amargadhi City Hall, Jilong (Kerung)-Rasuwagadhi-Chilime 220 kV cross-border electricity transmission line, Madan Bhandari Science and Technology University, Kathmandu Scientific Center, Science Museum, China-Nepal Friendship Industrial Park, and the Jhapa Sports and Athletics Complex.
