Satyaman Lama arrested for banking offense; sentenced to 2 years in prison

Kathmandu, November 18 — Police have arrested Satyaman Lama, who was sentenced to 2 years in prison for a banking offense. Lama, originally from Ward No. 6 of Temal Rural Municipality in Kavre and residing in Baluwatar, was apprehended, according to SP Nawaraj Adhikari of the Kathmandu District Police Range.

The Kathmandu District Court had sentenced him to 2 years in prison and imposed a fine of NPR 3 million following a complaint by Ram Kumar Tiwari. The verdict was issued on April 9, after which Lama had been absconding.

Known for his criminal activities in the past, Lama had recently been involved in the trade of Bodhichitta (Ziziphus budhensis) beads. An arrest warrant was also issued against him in a separate case for looting Bodhichitta beads from Home Bahadur Sunuwar of Ward No. 5, Fikkal Rural Municipality, Sindhuli.

Aryan Khatiwada had filed a complaint with the police, alleging that a group looted Bodhichitta beads from a tree owned by Home Bahadur Sunuwar, located in Fikkal Rural Municipality, Ward No. 1. According to Khatiwada, the beads were to be purchased under a contract for NPR 6.5 million.

Based on Khatiwada’s complaint, the Sindhuli District Court issued arrest warrants against Lama and four others for charges of robbery and theft. The beads were allegedly forcefully taken on July 17, and one of the accused, Pushpalal Dong, remains at large along with others involved in the incident.
