Kathmanmdu, October 29 — Today, on Dhanteras, the markets in Kathmandu are bustling with activity. There are overwhelming crowds in jewelry shops as well as in utensil stores.

It is a tradition to purchase new items on Dhanteras for the upcoming Laxmi Puja. According to popular belief, buying precious metals on this day is thought to help preserve wealth.

In addition to gold and silver, people are also purchasing brass items such as puja plates, water pitchers, lamps, containers, and betel leaves.
