Supreme Court refuses interim order in police officers' writ

Kathmandu, September 5 — The Supreme Court has declined to issue an interim order on the writ petition filed by Additional Inspector General (AIG) of Nepal Police Shyamalal Gyawali and three Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs).

AIG Gyawali, along with DIGs Kedar Dhakal, Rajeshnath Bastola, and Yagya Binod Pokharel, filed a writ petition challenging their mandatory retirement due to age limits.

The Supreme Court judges, Sapna Pradhan Malla and Kumar Chudal, have refused to grant an interim order but have prioritized the case for further review.

The police officers sought an interim order to prevent their mandatory retirement based on age. Inspector Nagendra Thakur is also a petitioner in this case.

According to Police Regulation, 2014, Inspectors retire at age 52, while DIGs and AIGs retire at age 56. AIG Shyamalal Gyawali is set to retire on September 10 upon reaching the age limit.

DIGs Rajesh Bastola, Kedar Dhakal, and Yagya Binod Pokharel are also approaching their retirement. Additionally, AIG Ram Dutta Joshi is scheduled to retire on October 2 due to age limitations.
