Parliamentary Hearing Committee to decide fate of EC nominee amid serious allegations

Kathmandu: The parliamentary hearing committee will convene on Monday. Padma Prasad Pandey announced that the meeting will be held at 11:30 AM at Singha Darbar.

The committee will decide whether to approve Krishnaman Pradhan's appointment as Election Commissioner. On July 24th, Pradhan appeared before the committee at Singha Darbar, where he presented his action plans for the role and responded to MPs' questions about complaints and allegations against him.

One complaint, filed by a woman identified as 'Complainant No. 4,' alleges that Pradhan sexually abused her for the past six years. Additionally, three other complaints have been lodged regarding his conduct.

During the previous meeting on Wednesday, parliamentarians noted that while Pradhan's action plan was well-regarded, high moral character is essential for holding the highest state positions. Concerns were raised about his suitability based on the complaint and evidence provided by 'Complainant No. 4.'

The Constitutional Council had recommended Pradhan for the position of Election Commissioner on June 16.
