Investigation Commission holds Minister Jwala responsible for Balkumari Incident

KATHMANDU: Following a thorough investigation, the Commission, led by Former Chief Justice Shekhar Poudel, has attributed Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Prakash Jwala, as the central figure responsible for the tragic Balkumari Incident, resulting in the loss of two young lives.

The report implicates Minister Jwala, along with operation commander DSP Umesh Lamsal and the Minister’s PSO, for their roles in the incident, which claimed the lives of two youths.

Presenting its findings to Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha on Friday, the commission underscored the gravity of Minister Jwala's involvement, based on testimonies gathered from individuals connected to the incident.

The unrest stemmed from a protest staged by EPS Korean Language students on Paush 13, demanding their inclusion in a language exam.

Tensions escalated into a clash between security personnel and students when the protesters set ablaze a vehicle belonging to Minister Jwala.

Tragically, this confrontation resulted in the untimely deaths of Birendra Shah from Achham and Sujan Rawat from Dailekh.
