Weather Forecast: Mixed Conditions Across Nepal with Rain in Hills and Heat in Terai

Kathmandu. According to the forecast of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the weather on Sunday is expected to be mixed in various parts of the country.

Some districts in the Terai will experience extreme heat and sunshine, while most cities in the hilly and Himalayan regions are likely to have thunderstorms and rain. Overall, the weather in most cities will change today.

Rain is forecast in most parts of the country this afternoon. There is a 20 to 30 percent chance of light rain with thunderstorms in Dadeldhura, Dipayal, Birendranagar, Jumla, Ghorahi, Bhairahawa, Simara, Kathmandu, Jomsom, and Dharan this afternoon. Similarly, the amount of rain will be slightly higher in Pokhara, Okhaldhunga, Dhankuta, Biratnagar, Jiri, and Taplejung. In these places, there is a 30 to 40 percent chance of moderate rain with thunderstorms this afternoon.

While it will be raining in many places across the country, some major cities in the western and central Terai will experience intense heat. The weather will be mainly clear in Dhangadhi this afternoon, with the maximum temperature expected to reach 35 to 37 degrees Celsius. Similarly, although the weather will be partly cloudy in Nepalgunj and Janakpur, the temperature will be very high.

Bhairahawa and Janakpur will experience the most heat today, with the maximum temperature expected to reach 36 to 38 degrees Celsius. The lowest temperature this afternoon will be between 23 to 25 degrees Celsius in Jomsom and Jiri.

The weather tonight will be clearer in many places compared to the afternoon. Dadeldhura, Dipayal, Jumla, Jomsom, Dharan, and Janakpur will have partly cloudy skies at night. Dhangadhi, Birendranagar, Nepalgunj, Ghorahi, Bhairahawa, and Simara will have mainly clear weather at night.

However, rain will not stop in some cities at night. Pokhara will still have moderate rain with thunderstorms with a 40 percent chance at night. Kathmandu, Okhaldhunga, Dhankuta, Biratnagar, Jiri, and Taplejung will also have light rain with thunderstorms with a 30 to 40 percent chance at night. The minimum temperature at night will be lowest in Jumla, between 12 to 14 degrees Celsius, while it will be highest in Bhairahawa, between 26 to 28 degrees Celsius.
