Ruling alliance gears up for talks with CPN-UML on National Assembly election strategy

KATHMANDU: The ruling coalition, comprised of CPN (Maoist Center), Nepali Congress, Janata Samajbadi Party, and CPN (Unified Socialist), is all set for a crucial meeting with the main opposition party, CPN-UML, to deliberate on seat allocation for the upcoming National Assembly election scheduled for January 25.

The meeting is scheduled to take place this evening at 5 PM, marking a significant step towards solidifying the alliance's strategy for the impending election.

Earlier today, Prime Minister and Chairman of CPN (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal engaged in discussions with leaders of the Nepali Congress, emphasizing the collaborative approach within the ruling coalition.

In anticipation of the meeting with CPN-UML, the ruling alliance has planned a separate meeting at 3 PM, laying the groundwork for constructive discussions and negotiations.

During the Tuesday and Wednesday meetings within the ruling alliance, the parties explored the prospect of forming a unified front with the main opposition in the upcoming NA election. With 19 seats set to become vacant in the National Assembly, the coalition appears open to sharing 3 to 4 seats with CPN-UML.

The imminent conclusion of the tenures of nine lawmakers from CPN-UML, four from Nepali Congress, three from CPN (Maoist Center), two from CPN (Unified Socialist), along with one each from Janata Samajbadi Party and an independent lawmaker on March 3 adds urgency to these strategic discussions.

As the political landscape evolves, the outcome of these talks will shape the alliance's collective approach, influencing the composition of the National Assembly in the aftermath of the election.
