Nepali Congress Proposes New Rule for Central Committee Members to Contest from Ward Level for General Convention Representative

Kathmandu. Nepali Congress has proposed a new rule requiring central committee members to compete from the ward level to become general convention representatives. This provision is mentioned in the 7-point proposal sent by Vice President Vishwaprakash Sharma on Jestha 16 to the former president Sher Bahadur Deuba and Dr. Shekhar Koirala groups for internal party consensus.

Point number 4 of the proposal states, 'Ending the tradition of automatically participating in the general convention, all those in the central committee must compulsorily become representatives from the ward level.'

Previously in Congress, there was no mandatory provision for central committee members to compete from the ward level to become general convention representatives. Interested central committee members would compete and come. Those who did not wish to would automatically become general convention representatives.

As the other group has not yet accepted this proposal, it is not yet certain whether this proposal will be implemented.
