Nepali Congress Proposes New Rule for Central Committee Members to Contest Ward Level for General Convention Representative

Kathmandu. Nepali Congress has proposed a new rule requiring central committee members to compete from the ward level to become general convention representatives.

This provision is mentioned in the 7-point proposal sent by Vice President Bishwa Prakash Sharma on Jestha 16 to the former President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Dr. Shekhar Koirala factions for internal party consensus.

Point number 4 of the proposal states, 'Ending the tradition of automatically participating in the general convention, all those in the central committee must compulsorily come by becoming representatives from the ward level'.

In Congress, previously there was no mandatory provision for central committee members to compete from the ward level to become general convention representatives. Interested central committee members would compete and come. Those not interested would automatically become general convention representatives.

This proposal has not yet been confirmed to be implemented as the other faction has not accepted it.
