Chhota Rajan aide arrested from Indo-Nepal border

DEHRADUN, Sep 19: A key aide of gangster Chhota Rajan and convict in the 2011 murder of journalist Jyotirmoy Dey (J Dey) in Mumbai was arrested by the special task force of Uttarakhand police at Banbasa in Champawat district on the Indo-Nepal border on Monday.

Deepak Sisodia, 50, a resident of Haldwani, had supplied weapons to the shooters involved in the J Dey murder, and was serving a life sentence at Amravati jail in Maharashtra. Police said "he was hiding in Mahendranagar area of Nepal and was on his way to meet his family in Haldwani."

SSP, (STF), Ayush Agrawal told TOI that Sisodia was out of jail on 45-day parole last January. Agrawal added: "He came home in Haldwani and was supposed to return in March. However, he jumped bail and fled to Nepal. Mumbai police registered a case of illegal obstruction to lawful apprehension and transferred it to Haldwani police which sought STF help to nab him. The probe continued for about a year."

Agrawal said a few days ago, police got a tip-off that Sisodia was planning to visit India via the Banbasa border and vigil there was increased. "Sisodia was arrested around 5am once he crossed over to India in a car. After completing legal formalities, he'll be handed over to Mumbai police," he added. Probe is on to trace aides who had helped him in Nepal.
