Tomatoes worth 8.7 million exported to India

KATHMANDU, Aug 26: Tomatoes worth Rs 8 million and 730 thousand were exported to India within the first month of the current fiscal year 2080-081.

India started importing tomatoes from Nepal after facing a price hike in the prices of tomatoes. 670 thousand kilograms of tomatoes were exported during this period to India.

Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitarman opened the import of tomatoes in three states claiming it will help in decreasing the prices. However, tomatoes were also imported from India during this period.

As per the statistics, 38,950 kilograms of tomatoes were imported from India to Nepal. Around Rs 990 thousand worth of tomatoes were imported.

This statistics is not official as there is an open border between Nepal and India which is more than 1800 kilometres long. Government officials say that tomatoes are also imported or exported through unofficial means.
