7 arrested for taking Bangladeshi citizens hostage in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU, Aug 13: A gang of 7 people have been arrested for keeping Bangladeshi citizens hostage in Kathmandu.

They were reported to have kept the Bangladeshis hostage by promising to send them to various countries through Nepal for foreign employment.

The Bangladeshi and Nepalese citizens were arrested by the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office after they were found demanding ransom money from the hostages' families.

The Investigation Office has also rescued six Bangladeshi citizens who were held hostage. They were kept at hotels and safe houses in various places in Kathmandu by the arrestees.

Among the arrested are Amir Hussen, 47, from Gajipur Bangladesh, MD Moshiur, 37, from Barisal Bangladesh, Salim Miya, 38, from Bangladesh, Tara Nepali, 27, from Sindhupalchowk Balephi-6, Jahangir Aalam, 21, from Bangladesh, Tahamina Begam, 21, from Bangladesh and Roshani Rai, 33, from Ilam Chulachuli-4.

Senior Police Superintendent Dr Manoj KC informed that they were sent to the Kathmandu Police Range on Sunday for investigation and action for offences under Section 211 and 212 of Criminal Code 2074 and Organized Crime Prevention Act 2070.

Among the victims, MD Nazmul, MD Eyasin, Ibrahim Hossen and MD Al Amin were rescued from the Memorial Guest House in Kalimatidol and Rajon and Farhad Hossen were rescued for a house in Harisiddhi.
