CPN-UML awaits CPN (Maoist Center)’s decision on presidential election

KATHMANDU, Feb 20: CPN-UML, the key member of the coalition government, has announced it will await the decision of ruling CPN (Maoist Center) on presidential election.

Earlier, after the general election, the CPN (Maoist Center) had agreed to support the UML in the presidential election and Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Chairman of Maoist Center was elected Prime Minister in the support of UML.

However, if the news published in the media are something to go by, PM Dahal is now in a mood to support the Nepali Congress in the presidential election. UML on its part has maintained that it will decide about the presidential election only after the CPN (Maoist Center) gives its official decision.

The two leaders of the parties, PM Dahal and KP Sharma Oli also held a meeting this morning at Baluwatar.

Both Dahal and Oli want someone close to be the next president. PM Dahal in recent days has been advocating to elect the president of the country through a national consensus. He has also been holding meetings with leaders of Nepali Congress, CPN (Unified Socialist) and Janata Samajbadi Party accordingly.
