Govt projects to drop dengue cases to zero by next eight weeks

KATHMANDU, Oct 30: The government has projected to drop the dengue cases to zero  by the 50th week of the first case diagnosed in the country.

Nepal is currently in the 42 week of the dengue infection. The disease was on its peak during the 36th week, according to the health ministry.

In the past three weeks, as many as 46,000 cases of dengue were confirmed in 77 districts killing 52 people.

The Epidemiology and Disease Control Division has prepared a BTI worksheet to tackle the dengue infection in the country. The division has claimed that the BTI procedure is an effective preventative measure against dengue.

Bacillus thuringiensis subspecies israelensis (Bti) bacteria is found in soil. Bti is used as a larvicide to kill larvae before they can grow into adults that can bite people. Bti has been used for mosquito control for more than 30 years.
