Govt restricts import of 10 luxurious goods including alcohol, mobiles amid declining forex reserve
KATHMANDU, April 27: In the bid to curb growing trade deficit and decreasing foreign exchange reserve, the government has restricted import of 10 luxurious goods that includes alcohol and mobile phones.
According to the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, the government has restricted import of the following goods:
1) ‘Kurkure’
2) ‘Kurmure’
3) Lays
4) Alcohol
5) Cigarettes and tobacco products
6) Diamond
7) Mobile Phones
8) Color Television exceeding 32 inches
9) Jeep, Car and Ven, Motorcycles exceeding 250 cc
10) Dolls and playing cards
The restriction will be in effect till Mid-July.
However, the government has not restricted import of raw materials of alcohol, cigarettes and tobacco products and diamonds.
