Railway Ordinance: Govt to provide compensation of Rs 700,000 to those dying in accidents

KATHMANDU, March 23: The government has decided to provide Rs 700,000 to those people losing their lives in train accidents.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Tuesday issued the Railway Ordinance. As per the ordinance, those losing lives and getting injured in Nepal or abroad in Nepali train accidents will be provided compensation and relief of Rs 100,000 to Rs 700,000 each.

With issuance of the ordinance, the legal hurdles for the operation of trains in Nepal have been resolved.

With this, the Railway Board has intensified the preparations for operation of trains in the country, according to Niranjan Jha, general manager of Nepal Railway Company.

The company is all set to inaugurate the railway within two weeks.
