Demolition of structures inside Narayanhiti museum begins

KATHMANDU, Jan 8: The demolition of structures built by the Batas Group to run a restaurant inside the Narayanhiti Durbar Museum has begun.

Most of the structures were dismantled on Friday, according to Bhesh Narayan Dahal, Executive Director of the Narayanhiti Durbar Museum Development Committee. 

Construction of structures inside the museum drew protests from all quarters, thus causing the concerned authority to take action in this regard. 

Similarly, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation have formed a probe committee relating to the issue. The line minister Prem Bahadur Ale directed the formation of a committee under the leadership of the Ministry's Joint Secretary Hom Prasad Luitel in this regard. 

The committee mobilized 12 workers to demolish the structures, according to committee member Tek Narayan Paudel.

The Group had earlier reached an agreement to run a restaurant on 10 Ropanis lands belonging to the museum.
