Nepal reports rise in covid infections, 540 new cases on Thursday

435 cases reported on Wednesday

KATHMANDU, Jan 7: A total of 540 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in Nepal on Thursday. 

The new infection caseloads were from a total of 12,099 tests, according to the Ministry of Health and Population 

Nepal reported 435 cases on Wednesday, 393 on Tuesday and 326 on Monday. Similarly, 216 cases were detected from across the country on Sunday, earlier this week. 

According to the ministry, the total number of active cases stands at 5,431 including those 2,476 from the Kathmandu Valley alone. Kathmandu district reported 1,302 active cases as of Wednesday followed by 621 in  Lalitpur and 553 others in Bhaktapur. 

Of the active cases, 79 infected people have been admitted to intensive care units and 14 are on ventilator support. Similarly, 5,069 people have been staying isolated at homes, 362 in institutional isolation and 113 at quarantine facilities.

Meanwhile, the recovery figure has reached 813,447 including  271 in the past 24 hours as of Wednesday afternoon. 

As many 120,653 people were vaccinated against the deadly infection according to the daily media release by the ministry.
