Vote count for NC central committee members underway
KATHMANDU, Dec 18: The counting of votes for the central members (35 from the open category) of the ruling Nepali Congress (NC) began at the Sanepa-based party head office on Saturday morning.
The election was held on Monday under the 14th general convention of the Nepali Congress.
The party’s election committee urged each of the candidates to present him/herself or one of his/her representatives at the vote-counting station.
Altogether 99 candidates are competing for 35 posts of central members (open category).
The counting of votes for 13 party office bearers was completed on Friday.
A total of 487 candidates had filed nominations for 134 posts including office bearers and members of the Congress Central Working Committee.
The Congress had 4,743 delegates attending the general convention.
Yadav, Singh victorious as NC central committee member
Chitralekha Yadav has been elected to the post of central member of Province No. 2 (Women) of the Nepali Congress.
Yadav won the post with 2,731 votes while her nearest rival Geeta Chaudhary got 1,885 votes. A total of 4,662 votes were cast in the election while 46 of them were termed invalid.
Ramesh Rijal and Ananda Prasad Dhungana had already been elected unopposed as CC members from Province 2 (male category).
Arjun Jung Bahadur Singh has also been elected the CC member of the party. He was elected the CC member from the cluster of the backward region (open).
According to the party's Central Election Committee, Singh won with 2,577 votes. His nearest rival Deepak Jung Shah polled 2,056 votes. A total of 4,672 votes were cast in the election while 39 votes were invalid.
