Bhaktapur voters cry for water with their elected representatives
Bhaktapur, "We do not have water supply in our area. Please bring water to our area," pleaded 84-year-old Krishna Bahadur Shrestha of Sirutar, Surya Binayak Municipality-1, Bhaktapur recently when he met Mahesh Basnet, the MP-elect from Bhaktapur constituency-2.
Basnet and another State Assembly member-elect Sashi Jung Thapa, who were visiting Sirutar in course of their election victory rally, were stunned to hear this elderly person imploring for water.
Garlanding and putting tika on the forehead of both the leaders, Shrestha said,"We have the taps but no water. We voted for you and now please give us water."
After hearing the locals of Upayogi Chowk at Sirutar, the two leaders assured them that they would make arrangements so that water will start flowing from the taps in their locality in six months.
The election victory rally started from the Gupteshwar temple that lies at the convergence of Balkot and Sirutar. The newly-elected lawmakers visited door-to-door in the area receiving congratulations from the locals as well as their request for addressing the acute drinking water problem that troubles them.
Not only drinking water, the locals welcomed the two leaders with flower garlands and at their homes and locality asking their newly-elected representatives to improve the condition of roads and sewage in their area.
Madan Bahadur Giri, 60, also implored with Basnet and Thapa for providing water facility in his area.
Addressing the victory rally held at the premises of Somalingeshwar Mahadev temple at Sirutar, MP-elect Basnet pledged to do his best to resolve the problems facing the locals. State Assembly member-elect Sashi Jung Thapa also committed to work for addressing the local problems, stressing on the need to develop Sirutar as a religious tourism destination.
