NC provincial conventions: Thapa wins to become Province 1 Prez

BIRATNAGAR: Uddhav Thapa, a candidate considered close to the faction led by Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Krishna Prasad Sitaula, won the elections to become the party’s president in Province 1. 

Thapa defeated his sole contender Guru Ghimire, the candidate fielded by the rival faction led by senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel, with a margin of only two votes. 

While Thapa secured 844 votes, Ghimire managed to win only 842 of 1,752 votes cast during the voting held on Saturday.
