Prithvi Subba Gurung reappointed as Gandaki Chief Minister
POKHARA, May 12: Prithvi Subba Gurung has been reappointed as the chief minister of Gandaki Province as opposition parties failed to garner support of majority of members of the province assembly.
Province Chief Sita Kumari Poudel reappointed Gurung as the chief minister. The political parties were earlier asked to stake claim to form a new government following the resignation of Gurung on May 9. The deadline to stake claim to the government, however, expired at 4 PM earlier on Wednesday.
The four political parties --- Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center), Janta Samajbadi Party (JSP) and Rastriya Janamorcha -- submitted a list of signatures of ‘majority’ of lawmakers. Krishna Thapa, a Janamorcha lawmaker, however, pulled his support given to the alliance which led CM Gurung to be appointed as the chief minister as per Article 168 (3) of the constitution.
Gurung will be re-sworn later today, according to the Office of Province Chief.
