NC, Maoist and JSP urge President to begin new govt formation process

KATHMANDU, May 10: Shortly after Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli failed to win the trust vote in the House of Representatives (HoR) on Monday, three pirates have urged President Bidya Devi Bhandari to initiate the process to form a new government. 

Nepali Congress (NC), CPN (Maosit Center) and Janta Samajadi Party (JSP) urged President Bhandari to initiate a process for new government formation as per Article 76 (2). 

Article 76 (2) states that (2) the President shall appoint a member of the House of Representatives who can command a majority with the support of two or more parties representing to the House of Representatives. as the Prime Minister in case where no party has a clear majority in the House.

Issuing a joint statement, NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda and JSP Chairman Updendra Yadav urged the head of the state to expedite process for new government formation, stating that PM Oli has been relieved of his position as per the Article 100 (3) of the constitution after losing the confidence motion. 
 

As per Article 100 (3), the Prime Minister is relieved of his/ her position if a motion tabled under  articles 100 (1) and 100 (2)  is not passed by a majority of the total number of the the existing  members of the House of Representatives.
