Cabinet meeting today, likely to take crucial COVID-19 related decisions

KATHMANDU, April 26: A Cabinet meeting is scheduled to take place at the prime minister’s official residence in Baluwatar, Kathmandu later on Monday afternoon at 5 PM. 

According to the Minister for Foreign Affairs (MoFA), today’s meeting will mainly discuss the various strategies for the prevention and control of the second wave of the novel coronavirus disease in the country. “Today’s meeting will dwell on the recommendations made by the COVID-19 Crisis Management Center (CCMC),” he added. 

A meeting of CCMC held on Sunday recommended to the Council of Ministers to enforce a nationwide lockdown at least for three weeks. Similarly, the CCMC also suggested the government to authorize the District COVID-19 Crisis Management Centers (DCCMCs) to impose a prohibitory order if the number of corona infections surpass 200 in hill districts and 500 in terai and those located in the Kathmandu Valley. 

Government will take necessary decisions and issue directives in a bid to break the chain of COVID-19 infection, according to Minister Gyawali. 

Meanwhile, the health ministry on Sunday confirmed 3,122 new COVID-19 cases taking the county’s national tally to 300,119. As many as 28 fatalities due to the viral infection were also reported on Sunday alone.
