Nepali Women Society Portugal gets new leadership


The third general convention of Nepali Women Society Portugal has elected a 21-member new executive committee under the chair of Sita Shrestha ' Shiwani'. 

Pritu Lama, Jyotsna Adhikari, Gita Reule and Janaki Subedi (Porto) have been elected vice chairs while Punam Gautam is the general secretary, Kalpana Karki and Monika Bhusal secretaries, Dongalhyanu Sherpa treasurer and Devi Gurung is the co-treasurer on the new committee. 

Laxmi Pariyar, Smriti Neupane, Indira Shrestha, Ankita Khanal, Ganga Lama, Sneha Pariyar, Babita Sharma, Bindu Gautam, Indra Kumari Thapa, Buddhimaya Gurung and Satyadevi Gurung have been elected the executive committee members. The election committee was formed under the coordination of society funder Sita Baral. 

Inaugurating the event virtually, honorary consul general for Portugal, Makar Hamal lauded the society for its role in promoting social service and protecting women's rights. Society's patron and gender-based violence expert Dr Jyoti Tuladhar administered oath of office and secrecy to the new leadership. 

As she said the society since its establishment has been playing a significant role for the advancement of women's rights. Representatives from several Nepali social organisations based in Portugal were present on the occasion.
