No confidence motion filed against Gandaki Chief Minister Gurung

POKHARA, April 15: A no-confidence motion was filed against the chief minister of Gandaki Province, Prithvi Subba Gurung on Thursday.
An alliance of opposition parties including Nepali Congress (NC), CPN (Maoist Center), Rastirya Janamorcha and Janata Samajbadi Party registered the no-confidence motion at the Province Assembly Secretariat. As many as 28 lawmakers signed in the motion initiated by the main opposition NC.
Parliamentary party leader of the NC in the province, Krishna Chandra Nepali Pokhrel has been presented as the proposed CM of the province to replace Gurung who represents the CPN-UML.
The winter session of the provincial assembly, however, was prorogued effective from Wednesday midnight. Amik Sherchan, Governor of the province, announced the prorogation at the recommendation of CM Gurung.
Of the 60 lawmakers of the Gandaki Province Assembly, 27 lawmakers have extended their support to the CM Gurung-led government. Dipak Manange, an independently elected lawmaker from Manang (b), who had earlier granted his support to the government, has announced that he will withdraw soon.
