NC Gen Convention: 13 office bearers, 50 CWC members elected, results for 71 members are yet to be announced

KATHMANDU, Dec 21: Vote count for various positions of the central executive committee of the ruling Nepali Congress (NC) is yet to finish. 

Election for new Congress leadership was held on Monday, last week. 


According to the party’s central election committee, as many as 134 members including 13 office bearer positions are to be elected through Monday’s voting. 

Results of as many as 13 office bearers and 50 central working committee (CWC) members were announced as of Tuesday morning. 

As per the election results, Sher Bahadur Deuba has been re-elected as the president of the party for the next four years. He defeated Shekhar Koirala in a run-off. A total of five candidates were in the presidential fray in the first phase of the election. 

While Purna Bahadur Khadka and Dhanraj Gurung won the elections as the vice-presidents, Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma made it to the general secretarial positions. 


The NC delegates also elected eight general secretaries including Bhismaraj Angdembe, Mahalaxmi Upadhyay, Mahendra Yadav, Farmullah Mansoor, Umakanta Chaudhary, Kishor Singh Rathor and Badri Pandey. 


The election committee also announced the results of 35 central committee members under the open category. 


Those elected as the central committee members under the open category include Shashank Koirala, Gopalman Shrestha, Arjun Narsingh KC, Ram Sharan Mahat, Bal Bahadur KC, NP Saud, Balkrishna Khand, Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, Ramesh Lekhak, Dilendra Badu and Dipak Giri. 

Similarly, Shankar Bhandari, Sunil Thapa, Udaya Shumsher Rana, Govinda Bhattarai, Nainsingh Mahar, Ramhari Khatiwada, Jip Chhiring Lama, Jit Jung Basnet and Padma Narayan Chaudhary have also made it to the central executive committee.

The 4,500 plus NC delegates elected  Mohan Bahadur Basnet, Surendraraj Pandey, Kundanraj Kafle, Guru Baral, Rajeev Dhungana, Mohan Acharya, Umesh Jung Rayamajhi, Ganesh Lama, Krishna Kishore Ghimire, Gopal Dahit,  Madan Bahadur Amatya Govinda Pokharel, Sanjaya Gautam, Dinesh Koirala and Ajaya Babu Siwakoti as CC members. 

Likewise, nine central committee members have been elected from the open female category. The list includes Dila Sangraula, Pushpa Bhusal, Arzoo Rana Deuba, Ambika Basnet, Ishwari Neupane, Sarita Prasai, Rama Koirala Poudel, Sushila Acharya Dhakal and Rangmati Shahi. 


One CWC member each from clusters allocated for the backward region (Arjun Singh Joshi), physically challenged (Madan Krishna Shrestha) and minorities (Pradeep Kumar Sunuwar). 

Similarly, Ramesh Rijal, Aanand Dhungana and Chitralekha Yadav have been elected the CC member from Province 2. 

According to the election committee, the results of 71 central committee members are yet to be announced. 

Vote counts for nine including four females under Dalit, 15 including seven females under indigenous nationalities and 13 including six females under Khas Arya clusters are yet to be accomplished. 

Similarly, results of nine Madhesi CC members including four females, four Tharu CCMs including two females and three Muslim central committee members including a female are to be officially declared.
