Kami Rita summits Everest 23rd time, sets a new record

Solukhumbu– A 49-year-old Sherpa set a new record of the most summits of Everest by breaking his own previous records. Kami Rita Sherpa, who originally is from Thame of Solukhmbu district, scaled the highest mountain in the world at 7: 50 am today from Nepal’s side.

Department of Tourism, Mountaineering Section’s first-class non-gazetted officer Rameshwor Niraula, informed from the Everest Base Camp that Sherpa set his feet on summit of the 8,848 metre high mountain and set a new world record of the most summits of Everest.

His expedition was managed by the Seven Summits Treks. Tashi Lakha Sherpa of Seven Summit treks gushed that Kami Rita’s feat was a matter of national pride. Kami Rita first climbed Everest in 1994.

Talking to media before leaving for Everest, the tireless Sherpa had articulated his intent to retire from climbing after he scales Everest for 25th times.

Sherpa, a Buddhist follower, had performed worships and offered prayers in various stupas and monasteries one month before his expedition kicked off.

The world record holder climber had admitted that although climbing was a tough task, it was a regular affair for him. 21st times Everest summiteer Apa Sherpa and Phurwa Tashi Sherpa have already taken retirement from climbing. ---
