Sashmit Pokharel Appoints New Vice-Chancellor and Registrar at Shahid Dashrath Chand Health Sciences University

Kathmandu. A Vice-Chancellor and Registrar have been appointed at Shahid Dashrathchand Health Sciences University located at Geta, Kailali. The University Council of Shahid Dashrathchand Health Sciences University has appointed Prof. Dr. Sunil Kumar Joshi, who was first in the order of merit, as the Vice-Chancellor and Dr. Bhim Bahadur Chand as the Registrar.

The convenor of the recommendation committee, Prof. Dr. Jayaraj Awasthi, submitted the sealed report containing the order of merit to the council through the Pro-Chancellor and Council Chairman, and Minister of Education and Sports, Sashmit Pokharel. Subsequently, Minister Pokharel announced the recommended names and informed about the appointments. 

Minister Pokharel stated that the recommendation process for 10 medical sector experts was conducted in a clean, impartial, and transparent manner based on the evaluation by 10 medical sector experts. He mentioned that the recommendation committee determined the order of merit and recommended names based on that evaluation, expressing confidence that academic and administrative work, including teaching, will commence at the university this year under the leadership of the newly appointed officials. 

According to Section 25 of the Shahid Dashrathchand Health Sciences University Act, the recommendation committee recommends three names along with their order of merit, and the candidate ranked first in the order of merit is appointed. Pro-Chancellors Minister Pokharel and Minister of Health and Food Security Nisha Mehta were present at the meeting.

Who are the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor and Registrar? 

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Sunil Kumar Joshi holds a doctorate from Vinayak Mission University in 'Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion'. He has contributed to teaching and research as a professor at various domestic and foreign universities. Previously, he also served as the founding Chancellor of Shahid Dashrathachandra Health Sciences University.

Joshi has also served as a departmental member of Oxford University. A local resident of Chabahil, Kathmandu, Joshi has obtained academic degrees including MD, MPhil, PhD, PGDip, FRSPH. He was actively involved in various international research related to medical education and public health. 

Similarly, the newly appointed Registrar Dr. Bhim Bahadur Chand has been active in health services and health administration for the past 25 years. He holds a postgraduate degree and a doctorate in Hospital Management. Previously, he also served as a member of the Executive Council of Shahid Dashrathachandra Health Sciences University. 

Chand, a permanent resident of Patan Municipality-1, Baitadi, has also served as a member of the Executive Council of the Nepal Medical Council. He has extensive experience in health service management, policy formulation, and institutional development.
