Flash Flood Risk High in Kathmandu Valley, Moderate Risk in 31 Other Districts

Kathmandu. Currently, the monsoon wind's influence is present across the country. The monsoon low-pressure line is currently slightly above the average position, near the southern parts of Nepal. Most of the country is cloudy. Light to moderate rainfall is occurring in some places in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces, and in one or two places in Madhesh, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim.

The Flood Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has stated that there is a high risk of flash floods in the Kathmandu Valley. According to the flood forecast bulletin issued by the division on Saturday morning, there is a possibility of a high risk of flash floods in some small rivers flowing through Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Kavre, and surrounding districts today.

The division has mentioned that there is a moderate risk of flash floods in 31 other districts of the country. It is estimated that the flow of some small rivers flowing through Nuwakot, Taplejung, Sankhuwasabha, Tehrathum, Panchthar, Khotang, Dolakha, Ramechhap, Sindhuli, Makwanpur, Chitwan, Nawalparasi, Kaski, Rasuwa, Dhading, Bara, Parsa, Rautahat, Kapilvastu, Rupandehi, Banke, Bardiya, Kailali, Kanchanpur, Dang, Pyuthan, Jajarkot, Jumla, Dadeldhura, and surrounding districts will increase significantly. Due to the moderate risk of flash floods in those rivers, it is necessary to exercise caution.

According to the division's measurement this morning, the flow of Koshi, Narayani, Bagmati, Karnali, Mahakali, and their tributaries is below the warning level. The bulletin also states that the flow of Kankai, Kamala, Babai, East Rapti, and West Rapti rivers is also currently below the warning level.

A flood risk is predicted to remain in the rivers across the country for the next two days as well. On Asar 28 and Asar 29, there is a possibility of a sudden increase in the flow of some small rivers flowing through all seven provinces. The division has requested residents in the riverine areas to take necessary precautions.
