Kathmandu. Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation Dr. Mahabir Pun has apologized after his remarks on traffic fines became controversial. He wrote on social media - 'I retract my statement made a few days ago in an interview with some social media journalists that a fine of Rs. 50,000 should be imposed. I announce the following. Please forgive me if anyone has been hurt inadvertently. Those who disregard traffic rules, please think with your hand on your heart.'

He further wrote, calling it a strict announcement - 'From today, I will not give interviews to any YouTubers, social media, or journalists, big or small, on any matter of significant public importance for one year, not one word, not one word, not one word. A few days ago, when I said I didn't know anything about traffic fines, they kept probing and asking. I said that those who disobey should be fined, and the Rs 50,000 figure was brought up by them. Imagine for yourself, what will happen to the country and society if those who disobey and commit crimes are not fined and punished appropriately?'
