Monsoon Disrupts Traffic on Major Highways Due to Floods, Landslides, and Road Repairs

Kathmandu. With the monsoon becoming active, traffic has been disrupted on various major highways across the country due to floods, landslides, and road repairs. According to Nepal Police data, some road sections in the Koshi and Bagmati provinces are completely or partially blocked.

Three major road sections in the Koshi Province have been affected. The Koshi Highway remains completely blocked due to a landslide in Syabru, Votkhola Rural Municipality-3, Sankhuwasabha, on Asar 7.

Similarly, the East-West Highway is operating only one-way due to a landslide in Budi Khola, Sundarharaincha Municipality-5, Morang, on Asar 6. The Mid-Hill Highway is also operating only one-way due to floods in Bokhim, Bhojpur Municipality-5, on Baisakh 12. Police have stated that alternative routes have also been arranged there.

Obstructions have also been observed on major roads in the Bagmati Province. Traffic has been halted on the BP Highway since Jestha 22, considering the potential flood risk on the Khurkot-Nepal Thok-Katuñjebesi section in Kavrepalanchok.

Likewise, the Kulekhani-Phakhel-Humane-Pharping-Kathmandu road section has been completely closed due to ongoing road repair work in the Mahalaxmi area of Indrasarovar Rural Municipality-2 and 4, Makwanpur. This road section will remain closed for the next one month for repair work.
