Gold smuggling case: 6 including Customs agent arrested

KATHMANDU, July 23: Six more people have been arrested in the case of smuggling about 1 quintal of illegal gold. 

Among the 6 arrested, half of them are informed to be Customs agents and the other half are Tribhuwan Airport Customs Office employees.

Customs employees Santosh Chanda, Kumar Dhakal, Saroj Shrestha and Customs agents Sudarshan Gautam, Yadav Parajuli and Rubina Thapa are among the arrested.

According to the Revenue Investigation Department sources, the six people were arrested after they were revealed to be involved in the smuggling case.

On July 18, a team from the Customs Department seized a 'break pad' containing gold from a taxi driver that was smuggled to Kathmandu through Cathay Pacific Airlines after it came out of the Customs office. The gold is reported to be brought from Hong Kong by the 'Ready Traders' group on the 15th of July.
